I had hoped to reveal some big news this week, but I’ve had to put things on hold a bit. We’ve had some news of a different sort, that a family member’s struggling with their health, and it’s been a big push to prepare to go visit them.
So for this week, I’m offering some moments of Spring beauty from my morning walk.
Imagine, if you will, a lovely sunny morning with a light breeze blowing. Most of the deciduous trees don’t have any leaves on them, but some of the plants on the bank are starting to bloom.
There were lots of dandelions, but I decided to let them be and take a picture of the golden ragwort hugging a little creek that comes down the hill toward our barn.
Believe it or not, even the wild strawberries are already blooming.
And the creeping phlox can’t be left out.
And just for good measure, one of my favorite woodland perennials. It’s not in flower yet, and the leaves are evergreen, so you can see them any time of year. But every time I see the leaves, striped wintergreen makes me smile.
I hope it brings you a smile, too!
Journal Prompt: When life offers you unexpected detours, what can you do to simplify?
Nature through the senses
Scent:
If you haven’t visited a redbud tree lately, please do this weekend. With it in full bloom, you’ll get a nice whiff of it’s soft sweet-pea like scent.
Sight:
What’s a great way to get outside and enjoy nature? How about National Park Week? This year it’s April 20 – 28, and entrance fees are waived on April 20!
Sound:
For a bit of a change, why some lovely classical music? Vivaldi’s Spring is always a good choice for background music as you’re doing something around the house.
Taste:
Go with me with this one. It’s too early for any new potatoes from the garden yet, but with luck, you may still have some from last year. If so, why not enjoy a bowl of leek and potato soup? Don’t mind if I do.
Touch:
As we get into the season for flowers, I’m making plans to start drying some of those lovely blooms this year. If you’d like to join me, please do! Send pictures of what you’re working on.
