Have you ever found you’ve overcommitted your time – to yourself?
Maybe that’s just me. 😊
There are so many goals I want to achieve, I run out of time to make meaningful progress on many of them in any given week. I’m still working on a solution for all of that.
The strategy I’m trying at the moment is to break things into small pieces so the next step toward each goal is more achievable.
A long time ago, I heard someone say that if we get 1% better each day, we’ll improve massively by the end of the year. I’m paraphrasing there, but that’s the gist of what they said.
Looking it up, it turns out that principle has a name: aggregate marginal gains. That’s not very inspiring, so I’ll go with the catchier one I found:
The 1% Rule
All of this is to say that I am working on some new ideas for RootStemLeaf that aren’t quite ready to send out into the world, but with a little elbow grease on my part, I should be able to announce them in the not-too-distant future.
I’m shooting for next week, but realistically, it may take two weeks to get there.
Either way, keep an eye out for a new announcement. I can’t wait!
Journal Prompt: What small steps have you taken this week that will help you make a big difference in your life in the future?
Nature through the senses
Scent:
Just because it’s that time of year, let’s all seek out a flowering cherry tree and enjoy the fragrance. It’s light, so you may have to get right up to the tree.
Sight:
We’re in Spring bulb blooming season, and there are some fantastic displays in public gardens if you’re up for a visit. One garden known for their Spring bulbs (like daffodils and tulips) is Gibbs Gardens in Georgia.
Sound:
Recently, I’ve been thinking about reading Heidi as a kid, and one of the things that attracted me to it back then was the idea of lying in her little bed at her grandpa’s house listening to the wind blowing through the pine trees. If that speaks to you, too, YouTube has a nice recording of wind through pine trees. Turns out there’s a name for that sound. Anyone up for enjoying a little psithurism?
Taste:
If you have asparagus in your garden, you may already be seeing some spears pop up through the soil. They’ll be ready to harvest once they’re about 8”-10” tall, so there’s probably a few weeks yet before any reach that size. Now’s the time to clean up the bed if you haven’t already.
Touch:
It’s the time of year for wildflowers to start blooming. I’ve found a bunch of them already as we’ve been out and about this week. If you like to gather them for an indoor bouquet, here’s a link to a guide to what is blooming when. This is specific to the area I live in, but the local botanical garden probably has a similar guide for any area you’re interested in looking up.
